CHAPTER STUDENT LEADER

Student Leader Responsibilities

1. Student Leaders receive mentoring as they work alongside their chapter sponsor in planning and executing chapter meetings, progress through the Student Leader Development in the Navigator,, and gain certification towards leadership competencies.

2. Chapter Student Leaders work with the Sponsor, Assistant Sponsor, and coaches in chapter to prepare, run, and debrief the chapter meetings.

3. Using the ICC chapter curriculum, the Navigator, Student Leaders will be the example as they are being mentored, gaining the skills and experience to:

  • Open the chapter meetings with energy and enthusiasm to create an experience
  • Lead warm-ups and opening activitiesLead YCC Devotions
  • Lead YCC lessons and YSG lessons
  • Close the chapter meeting
  • Debrief the meeting
  • Plan subsequent meetings

4. Student Leaders commit to being the example (1 Tim 4:12) in chapter by:

  • Making steady progress through their own YSG portfolios toward Guild Induction.
  • Preparing speeches and participating in ICCFS Tournaments
  • Participating in area activities
  • Attending at least 4 YSG Video Connections (YSG VCs) & Global Student Leader Connections (GSLCs) and completing SMART goals

 5. Student Leaders get focused leadership training (Student Leader Development) and on-the-ground time to prepare and debrief meetings.

Eligibility Requirements

  • 14 years old or older, having completed YSG1 OR 13 years old, having completed YSG2
  • Attendance at an ICC training event in the last 12 months (IGNITE Winter Advance, PREP/Media PREP, iCON, or CFC Conference)
  • Agreement with ICC Statement of Faith
  • Regularly attend YSG Video Connections (at least 4 YSG VCs & GSLCs)
  • Enrollment in Chapter Student Leadership 

 

CHAPTER MENTOR

 Chapter Mentors provide advice, experience, and guidance to the Student Leaders to help them to grow. They may also support the Chapter Sponsor and help facilitate the Chapter Presentation.

Maximum of two per chapter; 1-year commitment

 Eligibility Requirements

  • Previous Student Leader for minimum of one year
  • Regularly attends YSG Video Connections (at least 6 YSG VCs & GSLCs)
  • 16 years old & YSG 2 completed OR 15 years old and Guild Inductee
  • Served as Apprentice and attended one international event (within past 12 months) 

Responsibilities May Include

  • Coordinate Chapter Presentation with Chapter Sponsor and Assistant Sponsor
  • Filling out Script Critiques for students working through YSG
  • Providing guidance and assistance to the team of Student Leaders
  • Developing workshops and sessions to coach Student Leaders
  • Assisting Chapter Sponsor and Assistant Sponsor in deciding the direction of the chapter
  • Planning special events such as Student Leader get-togethers
  • Mentoring and encouraging students preparing for Induction
  • Pursuing scholarship opportunities for chapter members
  • Regularly attend YSG Video Connections and quarterly Global Student Leader Connections

Objectives

  • To provide meaningful coaching for not just communication, but leadership
  • To collaborate with adults in leadership
  • To build unity among the Student Leaders

Becoming a Student Leader in a Chapter 

Chapter students are encouraged to grow through the ICC Student Leadership pathway. They receive mentoring from their Chapter Sponsor and through the Student Leader Development Curriculum in the Navigator, they apply that learning in practical ways at live events and in chapter meeting planning and debriefs.

  • Triannual Global Student Leader Video Connections 3 times each year, $30 value
  • Student Leader Development Curriculum (Navigator) - 20 sessions, $200 value
  • Training and eligibility for other SL Roles
  • Academy Student Leader Resources, $70 value (Coming this Spring!!!)
  • Reception with training at international events with event registration, $25 value
  • Practical hands-on training in mentoring others
